Substance Use Disorder Resources

The Durham County Department of Public Health has produced two publications containing information on local resources available to Durham residents struggling with substance use.

1) Durham County Resources for Individuals Who Use Substances  ( Español ) - This guide lists:

  • Providers of free and low-cost treatment, including medication-assisted treatment (MAT)
  • Harm reduction services such free sterile (unused) syringes and naloxone kits
  • Recovery and support groups
  • Housing options
  • HIV, Hepatitis C, and other STI testing and treatment services 

Contact information for each service is provided. The publication also discusses tips for overdose prevention and survival, safer injection practices and wound care. If you would like to fill out an evaluation of this resource guide and give feedback, click here

2) Durham County Housing Options for People with Substance Use Disorder  - This document includes detailed information on all Durham agencies that provide housing for individuals with substance use disorder, including homeless shelters, short-term transitional housing, and long-term housing. Information provided includes: 

  • Agency names, addresses, and phone numbers
  • Description of services and populations served
  • Admissions criteria, including whether people taking MAT are accepted
  • How to apply and payment details

The publication is designed to assist social workers and case managers who serve clients with substance use disorder.
